A castle built for Nicolas Fouquet in the 17th century, the history of which brings us back to Louis XIV’s reign. Le Vau, Le Brun, and Le Nôtre will be the main architects, and will build Versailles a few years later.

The garden
At the end of the 17th Century, 25 years were needed to reconstruct the gardens. Le Nôtre made a spectacular use of the topography of the land combining nature with architecture. The dominant perspective draws the eye up towards a horizon lined with successive terraces which emphasize the raised level of the Château.
The carriage museum
In the large stables owned by Fouquet, there is an exhibition of magnificent old horse-drawn vehicles allowing you to experience the ancient art of the master coachbuilders.
The carriages are brought to life with harnessed horses, coachmen, grooms and passengers.
